MP Gary Streeter championed the cause of Christians engaging in politics, when he spoke at an Interserve ReGenR8 Live event at Northchurch Baptist Church in Hertfordshire during November.

Streeter, who has made several visits to central Asia with Interserve, spoke of his passion to see Christians engaging in political processes, and its resulting impact on those who might feel called to bring better governance in developing countries. He praised the way agencies like Interserve were grasping the nettle in this area.
"It's not easy for mission agencies such as Interserve to get involved in politics," said Streeter. "There are risks. But I believe it is the right way to go, and my experience, talking with young people in central Asia and Africa, convince me that there is a job to be done in equipping and encouraging their participation in their own region."
The three year programme that Interserve embarked upon last year with Streeter, a Conservative, and Labour MP Andy Reed, in central Asia involves running workshops for students, as well as meetings with aspiring leaders and policy makers. The objective is to encourage local participation and activity among students and young people, underpinned by integrity and honesty.
The Minsiter of Northchurch Baptist Church, Rev. David Russel, endorsed the MP's message.
"If the church is to be relevant in this country, then we need to work in all aspects of life within the community, including politics. This message from Gary was especially relevant today for this country as it is overseas. As a church, we will try to continue to engage in all areas of community life."
